Mary recently retired after serving eleven years on the Unified Family Court bench in Florida's Twentieth Judicial Circuit. Judge Evans served in Collier County for 2.5 years before transferring to Charlotte County. As the only Unified Family Court judge in Charlotte County, Judge Evans was assigned all of the family cases, all of the dependency cases, and all cases involving injunctions for protection.
Judge Evans has hours of additional training on the topics of domestic violence, adverse childhood experiences, and strangulation. Judge Evans was invited to co-author Addressing Strangulation in Florida Courts: A Critical Resource for which she wrote the family law chapter. Judge Evans spoke publicly for C.A.R.E. in Charlotte County and she traveled to California in 2025 to present at the End Violence Against Women International conference. She remains available to speak wherever she is needed.
Judge Evans began teaching as an adjunct professor at her alma mater, Florida Gulf Coast University in 2017. She has taught family law issues, juvenile justice, moot court, and law office management.
Judge Evans co-authored a resource for self-represented parties in family law actions titled How to Not Look Like an Ass in Court. She has other works in progress along with podcasts focused on specific topics aimed at assisting self-represented individuals in family court.
